Pink-Eyed DilutionsThe pink-eyed dilution on the P locus. It should not be confused with the albino gene, which is on the C locus and creates a pure white mouse with pink eyes. There are other ways to create a pink-eyed white mouse using the p gene in combination with other c locus dilutions, but they are somewhat rare as the c locus and the p locus are located on the same chromosome. Additionally, a black-eyed white mouse can be combined with the pink-eyed gene to create a pink-eyed white mouse that is not necessarily c-diluted at all. Pink-eyed dilution of most colors leads to a new color designation. P - black eyes (in the absence of c-locus modification) p - pink eyes Pink-eyed Black (aa B* D* pp) - US Lilac, UK Dove Pink-eyed Blue (aa B* dd pp) - Silver Pink-eyed Chocolate (aa bb D* pp) - Champagne Pink-eyed US Dove/UK Lilac (aa bb dd pp) - Lavender Pink-eyed Agouti (A* B* D* pp) - Argente (can be combined with other colors, ie. pink-eyed blue agouti is called opal argente) Continue to C Locus Dilution |
